Assassins Creed 3: Liberation

Assassins Creed 3: Liberation is an action-adventure and stealth video game released in 2012 and was published by Ubisoft entertainment and is available on platforms such as Xbox360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows. Assassins Creed 3: Liberation is apart of the Assassins Creed series that has sold 3.5 million in the first week it was released. The game is set between 1765 and 1777 and features the series first female protagonist, Aveline de Grandpre, an African-French assassin around the end of the  French and Indian war, in 18th century New Orleans. This gives a positive representation of women and especially black women in games. In addition having a black woman as a protagonist, especially a strong woman, subverts stereotypes of women being weak and the civilians and not a hero.

Furthermore, on the google reviews 84% of people liked the video game, also on the website Megacritic there are 28 positive reviews, 43 mixed reviews and 0 negative views. One Critic states that "Nov 6, 2012 In many ways, Assassin's Creed III: Liberation is suppressed by Ubisoft Sofia's own outrageous ambitions. The plot meanders between ingenious and incomprehensible, sadly settling on the latter for great chunks of the single-player campaign. The game play is recognisable and confidently recreated, and there are moments when Aveline's pocketable adventure threatens to outdo its console counterparts – but the experience is mired by a communicative murkiness that's not entirely unlike its depiction of the Louisiana bayou's bogs." The game won an award for writers guild of America award for achievement in video game writing in 2013, it beat the other nominees which were 007 legends, assassins creed 3, Disney epic Micky 2: The power of two, Halo 4 and uncharted: golden abyss to the title. The producer, Martin Capel, created the game cover to be empowering and reflects the time period of the game. For instance, the female protagonist is dressed in fighting attire that emphasises the genre of the game.

Also, the age rating is visible on the front cover and the fact that the age rating is 18 foreshadows that there's violence in the game that isn't suitable for young children. This links to the Bandura theory that posits that people learn from one another by observation, imitation and modelling. This links to his research where children are watching adults playing with a doll aggressively then when it was there turn to play with the doll they mimicked the adults behaviour. Therefor, if someone under 18 played the game they'd mimic the violence in the game in real life because they can not see the divide in fantasy and reality.

The Assassins Creed franchise have a world wide fan base that consists of mainly 17 year old and older male who have an interest in gaming especially action games. The franchise advertises through the media by YouTube adverts and trailers, Instagram promotions by gaming influencers, television adverts and posters being broad casted on busses and build boards.
