Jorja Smith- Beautiful little fools

Jorja Smith wrote Beautiful Little Fools at the age of 16 when she read The Great Gatsby she was inspired by a passage where Daisy expresses that she hopes for her infant daughter would " Be a fool - that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool " Jorja Smith played on these words in her song.Jorja Smith released the song on International Women's Day on March 8 2017. This was aimed to inspire and empower women and young girls to have self-respect and not look to a man for reinsurance.
The audience expectations of the music video being released on International Women's Day is that the content and ideology is made to empower women and make females feel self-esteem. This is evident in the music video as the Star plays three different roles in the video representing different types of women in society. The first roles she plays is a women who is applying red lipstick on her lips as the red connotes love and sexual, in this role you can clearly see that this character presents herself how the media tells her to which is to look pretty for male attraction as the character sits down on a table with one man and three other women who are also wearing makeup and yet she isn't satisfied or engaging with the man like the other women she's sitting opposite to. This represents Jorja's message of feminine beauty being dictated by the media and society as it is seen that Jorja questions the need of women having to present themselves how society tells them to. Jorja Smith quoted in an article, " I wrote this song when i was 16 years old after reading The Great Gatsby. It's a very special song to me as i wrote it to help myself. To assure myself that all i have to do is be myself. I feel as young girls grow up they're slightly tainted by what the media says is ' beautiful ' and i feel like my song can be a little help to them. We are all beautiful in our own individual ways. "
The second role, Jojra plays a waitress who has to clean the lipstick off the wine glasses as the waitress holds the wine glass towards the camera the lyrics " Didn't your mother tell you love yourself, well if your mother was Zelda or Daisy I guess not" this anchorage emphasises the message. Another role she plays in the song is a bar singer who isn't performing to an audience but directly sings to us making direct mode of address, this shows performing purpose as it doesn't add to the narrative. Also, Jorja plays herself in the music video as she wears no makeup and makes direct mode of address as if she is informing the audience.

Overall,  Jorja Smith uses convergence as she is an ambassador for Nike and has been the face for  their Nike air force campaign and she also featured in the London Nike campaign advert. This helps her to gain recognition
